Why Riviera Envy?
Hello Everyone!
My name is Jameson Farn and Iive in the Cote d’Azur region of France, so close to Monaco I can practically smell the wealth.
So why Substack? Well, I’ve been writing on my usual blog, Gay French Riviera (https://www.gayfrenchriviera.com) since early 2011. That platform now seems outdated (although I will continue with it for now) and simply because of the LGBTQ content, articles are not allowed on basically anything Meta so the reach on social media can be limited.
And I wanted to venture into something different and go beyond what the LGBTQ community is like here to write about other topics of possible interest.
When I started Gay French Riviera, it was because as a visitor to the region at the time, there didn’t seem to be a lot of updated information on anything about the LGBTQ community in the area, so one dreary night in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where I am originally from, I thought I would give blogging, a new concept to me at the time a try and to my surprise, the blog did very well.
Immediately the local tourism associations contacted me, and over the years it helped me build my own network of connections in the region both personally and professionally, which was extremely beneficial when I finally ripped off the band-aid and moved here.
Gay French Riviera is not done for any financial gain. I actually get excited out of posting about a new gay establishment opening, the range of people I get to meet, and local events.
Over the years, I have contributed to other major online publications both in Europe and in North America so expect a variety of subjects, and with this, my new Substack account, I wanted to bring not only my Gay French Riviera information to this platform but also straight up, honest accounts of what life can be like here in France, the ups and downs and the lifestyle in general, LGBTQ minded or otherwise.
The name for my Substack account, Riviera Envy, is a bit of a play on words since even as a visitor to this region before I moved here full time almost 10 years ago, many of the first words I tend to hear from those that visit my work Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/experiencethefrenchriviera) is how envious people are that I get to live here. Though I figure, if I can do it, anyone can, so there will be some topics written about all of that too.
Riviera Envy is also part of a brand I will be launching in the late Autumn months of 2022 with a much fuller launch in Spring 2023 so watch for that and please feel free to subscribe to my Riviera Envy Substack account and if you have any questions, please let me know..
Merci!
